In what is believed to be an industry first, the Arizona State Fair in Phoenix kicked off its Oct. 14-Nov. 6 run with a presenting sponsor. Denver-based telephone, Internet and cable provider Qwest gave the fair $250,000 in cash to be the presenting sponsor and also had an in-kind contribution called "Planet Qwest," a large domed area that showed off products during the day and became a club at night.
