(Con Edison) is proud to be the presenting sponsor of The Five Boro Bike Tour on Sunday, May 2 at 8 a.m. starting at Battery Park. This is the 15th consecutive year of Con Edison’s sponsorship of the nation’s largest mass-cycling event. More than 32,000 riders from across the country and abroad are expected to ride.The Tour is produced by Bike New York and the New York City Department of Transportation. Hundreds of Con Edison riders and volunteers will help start the day with legendary radio personality Bruce “Cousin Brucie” Morrow, as he kicks off the 42-mile tour, rain or shine, at the starting line in lower Manhattan.The Tour will take riders north through Central Park and Harlem to the Bronx, down the FDR Drive and over the Queensboro Bridge. The riders will then pedal along the Brooklyn waterfront, and finally cross the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge to Staten Island, the site of Festival 2010 at Fort Wadsworth in the Gateway National Recreation Area.The picnic-like setting of Festival 2010 will feature live music, food and beverage concessions, displays, bike services and souvenir merchandise sales. Along the Tour route, Con Edison employees will join other volunteers assisting cyclists at the five official Tour rest areas, including the Con Edison Learning Center in Long Island City, Queens. Con Edison employees also will be rolling along the Tour route as members of the Power Wheelers biketeam. The Power Wheelers meet regularly throughout the year for bike tours around the region. Many Power Wheelers serve as official bike marshals for the Tour, providing advice on bike safety, repair and maintenance techniques.Due to an overwhelming response this year, registration for this event is currently closed.
