Spoleto Festival USA, the 17-day performing arts festival held in Charleston, South Carolina, May 22 – June 7, will partner with Uber this season. New Uber riders who download the app and sign up using the code SPOLETOUSA15 will receive $20 off their first ride. (New users only. First ride only.) Riders using the app during the Festival can also enter a special “Ride to Win” competition for two tickets and a round-trip ride (up to $50 each) to the Wells Fargo Festival Finale at Middleton Place on Sunday, June 7, featuring soul band St. Paul & The Broken Bones.Spoleto Festival USA attracts over 60,000 attendees each year for over 150 performances of opera, music, theater, dance, and more presented in 13 venues in historic downtown Charleston. The Festival’s audience is a mix of locals living within the tri-county area and out-of-town visitors.Festival spokesperson, Jennifer Scott, says the partnership with Uber offers attendees a safe alternative to driving: “Many people who do not live downtown can be reluctant to drive and find parking. Uber offers a way to be a part of the Festival fun for people living outside of the downtown area. It allows them to attend concerts such as the Wells Fargo Jazz Series, held outdoors in the College of Charleston Cistern Yard, Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell at the TD Arena, or any Spoleto Festival USA performances without having to drive themselves.”The only Spoleto Festival USA event held outside of the downtown area is the popular Wells Fargo Festival Finale on Sunday, June 7, at Middleton Place located approximately 14 miles from downtown Charleston. The day includes picnicking, live music, a beer garden, and access to Middleton Place’s famed gardens. This year’s headline music act is acclaimed Alabama soul band St. Paul & The Broken Bones, whose performance will be followed by a spectacular fireworks display. Gates open at 3:00pm.To sign up to use Uber during Spoleto Festival USA, visit uber.com/go/SPOLETOPUSA15.
