The illy Events Marketing Manager is part of the North American brand teams supporting PR, Brand, Marketing and Sales.


The primary function is to contribute to the overall brand metrics by effectively implementing brand building events that maximize the company’s ROI. The total management of local and national events both small and large scale for consumers and industry will include researching and identifying opportunities, selection and negotiation, producing and executing.


These events must be unique, appealing, beautiful and done on small budgets, which require extraordinary efficiency, creativity, cleverness, hard work and competency.


The complexity of coffee service requires knowledge of the transformation process that takes place during coffee preparation and the technical equipment and skills needed to serve properly. Brand and product knowledge is essential along with following the highest of illy brand and service standards to create unique and memorable experiences.


SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs planning and execution of events: research, creative programming/activations, event operations, logistics and production coordination, budgeting and cost control including negotiations, managing outsourced assignments including vendor contracts and billing, project leadership and management including weekly meetings, on-site management, and results reporting (win, learn, change methodology) of event efforts. Also manages and organizes company owned event assets including warehousing of inventory. 50%
  • Plans, manages, budgets and fully implements large scale experiential consumer events such as sponsorships at Tribeca Film Festival, SOBE Wine & Food, NYC Wine & Food and EXPO Milano 2015 -- programs that reach, sample and convert illy target consumers. Works closely with marketing, internal social media manager and public relations agencies to ideate and execute across disciplines for greater brand exposure.
  • Leads, organizes and manages all communications with current and potential event vendors/event partners (e.g. others brands, media, non-profits or b2b customers) to evaluation requests, project management activities (meetings, memos, emails), track, maintain, and effectively utilize budgets to drive positive results from event activations. 10%
  • Collaborates and communicates with internal sales, education department, marketing (product, brand, direct channel, and advertising), social media and PR, and global brand/pr teams to leverage and execute promotional opportunities across shared platforms. Provides events expertise which is a source of best practices within in the company. Responsibilities include broad coordination, identifying and evaluating event opportunities (trade/customer and consumer facing), create recommendations and creative activations, product fulfillment, staffing/training, retail demos and trade show support. 20%
  • Consults, counsels and supports illy sales teams on regional corporate events (including b2b customer collaborations) evaluation and activation for most effective use of branch and national marketing funds.
  • Write communications and articles for internal publications focused on event executions in support of overall communications efforts. 5%
  • Maintains and publishes Corporate Event calendar for internal and external usage, event operations handbook, custom and stock templates for seamless activation and communication. 5%
  • Evaluates and fulfills outside requests for in-kind donations that require coffee service and/or product (such as silent auction, product placement and gift bag requests) and manages activation which includes seeing all benefits provided are executed including communications in form of signage or written inclusion in event materials. 5%
  • Continuously stays abreast of event strategies, ideas and trends in the marketplace including competitive and industry brands. Utilizes this knowledge to create opportunities and inform all facets of events. 5%


    Required Skills

  • BS in Marketing, Communications, Hospitality or related fields
  • Minimum 5 years in event management including production and operations (sales and/or marketing experience a plus) Communicate effectively – written and oral communication with clear, concise, and succinct accuracy of often complex concepts
  • Creative and critical thinking to solve detailed, complex problems and find suitable (often original) alternative solutions to challenges Knowledge and skills to implement integrated marketing concepts / campaigns within event/sponsorship platforms
  • Implementation of sales and marketing strategies and tactics for showcasing, promoting, selling products and services, and cross-promotional skills
  • Project planning and management
  • Presentation skills with ability to create and present information to internal and external audiences
  • Organization, budgeting, delegation, goal setting, data compilation, time management
  • Computer Skills: MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) & Adobe Acrobat Reader, Ability to use Adobe CS (Photoshop, Illustrator) and/or basic video editing programs a plus
  • Prior Senior Management position from agency or in-house corporate or equivalency of mix. Food, beverage, hospitality or other related CPG industry is a plus.
