Responsible for developing, executing and integrating focused brand strategies that connect critical audiences with the AARP Real Possibilities brand promise. Chief among these are brand stewardship, (targeting AARP staff, volunteers and selected partners); the Disrupt Aging platform challenging outdated beliefs and sparking new solutions; a holistic, integrated approach to AARP’s activities related to sports and music; and brand strategies designed to effectively target and reach special segments of the 50+ population (i.e., women). Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Developing clear and effective frameworks to guide AARP’s sports and music strategies based on the goals of brand revitalization and the emerging opportunities across the AARP enterprise
Serving as a primary relationship manager for potential alliances and brand partnerships associated with sports, music and special segment strategies
Integrating across the AARP enterprise to leverage opportunities in these key areas and provide information, resources and support to programs, business units and state offices
Directing a team of brand communicators and project managers who execute brand stewardship and special projects, and maintain up-to-date inventories of all AARP activities in these key strategic areas
Managing high profile, large scale projects that require senior level guidance, expertise and leadership
Directing agencies, agents and other key vendors to execute strategic initiatives
Serving on an annual strategic planning team to help guide programs and activities of the Brand Department
Serving as the Brand Department’s chief innovation champion to drive energy and innovative thinking across Brand Strategy and Services, Events and Social Media teams
Demonstrating commitment to the mission and goals of advancing the AARP Brand with creativity, passion and integrity
Demonstrating desired cultural attributes and Leadership behaviors in all interactions
Due to the dynamic nature of Brand’s goals, activities and needs, this position will require flexibility to assume all other duties as required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing or related field required.
12+ years of progressive strategy and management experience related to the position’s roles and responsibilities including brand strategy, marketing, customer experience, and integrated communications.
Ideal candidate will have experience in an agency or consulting capacity.
Proven ability to quickly understand and interpret strategic issues, assess opportunities, identify key trends, and provide sound recommendations related to complex issues.
Demonstrated strong project management, problem-solving and leadership skills required.
Ability to lead a high-performing team ensuring cross-training, creating a culture of collaboration and innovation
Change Management experience a plus.
Excellent interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with a variety of personalities and work styles, and demonstrated diplomatic, networking and delegation skills.
Excellent oral and written communications skills.
