The Director of Sports Marketing at Spike will play a critical role in the growth of the Spike Sports umbrella, including MMA, kickboxing, and boxing. This combat sports enthusiast candidate will be an expert at building to events with innovative and well targeted fans and a dedicated student of the audience, their needs and behaviors.


The Director, Spike Sports will manage and enhance the external identity of the Spike Sports brand by working closely with the SVP and EVP, Brand Marketing. This person would serve as primary liaison for all sports properties between our sports agency and our executive staff to execute on strategy. This person would manage vision and planning down to day-to-day promotional output across all platforms to ensure a consistent voice and timeline.


Responsibilities

  • Execute off-channel marketing for the SPIKE SPORTS brand and TV content including paid media, events & promotions, buzz media opportunities and promotional/media partnerships
  • Support SVP and VP in the development of strategic, innovative and creative launch and lifecycle marketing plans for key shows, events and products
  • Create and manage property calendars, media and creative briefs that inform and outline assignments for internal and external deliverables and establish efficient workflow across disciplines deploying both on and off owned platforms.
  • Oversee all event marketing including potential on ground and in market activations
  • Manage day-to-day relationship with key media agencies and sports partners
  • Oversee and track yearly overall and property specific budgets
  • Support efforts of Sales, Integrated Marketing, and Viacom Content Distribution/Partner Marketing Group, including development of ad sales promotions and events to engage buyers and clients
  • Partner closely with Spike digital and fan engagement teams to drive, social footprint growth and brand relevance on all platforms, DAU, TVE/APP, video consumption and other initiatives
  • Plug into Spike brand marketing manager coordinator and interns with active goal setting and decisive leadership


    Required Skills

    Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in Marketing and/or Media Planning
  • Experience in a Sports Marketing leadership role

  • Knowledge of the sports marketing landscape
  • A track record of success developing creative and innovative marketing plans
  • A proven success record for cross discipline collaboration
  • Excellent communication skills are critical with a penchant for being able to “sell the idea” and present precisely and thoughtfully to senior executive stakeholders.
  • Exceptional managerial skills; able to effectively lead a team and collaborate with internal and external agencies
  • Understanding and comprehension of financial/budget processes
  • A fundamental appreciation of SPIKE SPORTS creative and brand sensibilities
