GU’s Marketing Team connects our sports nutrition products with athletes. The department develops brand, promotional and activation plans to drive the GU brand and product lines forward in the Specialty Run, Cycling, Triathlon, Outdoor and Health/Vitamin marketplaces.
The Sports Marketing Coordinator (Run, Tri) is responsible for managing GU’s sponsored athletes and/or athletic teams, events, and promotion/activation projects with a focus in the Run and Triathlon markets. This position will bring an innovative and entrepreneurial approach to marketing programs and strengthen GU’s brand image, introduce new products, attract new customers, and drive retail sell-through.
60% travel required in/out of state.
Works closely with a counterpart in Sports Marketing and with the
Marketing Communications Manager to build marketing programs that meets needs and requirements of key stakeholders and business goals for the Product, Sales and Marketing components of the GU brand.
Increases brand awareness and enhances brand image by executing promotion strategies and plans.
Collaborates with marketing peers and cross-functional teams of sales, product development, and leadership to design and execute events strategy.
Plans, stages, coordinates, attends/staffs and manages all aspects of events and is responsible for operational details (hands-on approach)
Liaises with race directors to ensure promotional success at every event.
Acts as sports nutrition subject matter expert and educates consumers about GU products and athletic performance benefits.
Manages staffing (booth employees and contractors) at select events to effectively support superior brand activation.
Manages run/tri ambassadors and teams; serves as the primary liaison and provides GU athletes with exceptional customer service.
Collaborates with Marketing Communications Manager to document select athlete content gathering projects and event activation, and regularly shares athlete feedback internally.
Represents the brand and actively works to build a best-in-class impression of GU’s product line among consumers, athletes and industry contacts.
Troubleshoots and resolves any and all problems on event days.
Performs other duties as required.
BA/BS degree required.
3+ experience in athlete and events management, or 2+ years’ experience in run/bike/tri or outdoor industry marketing.
Experience brand enhancing projects and promotions.
Proven success implementing vision through quality execution and measurable results.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Proven experience providing excellent customer service.
