POSITION SUMMARY

  • The Public Relations Manager, Sport will help lead and manage the Public Relations efforts in support of the brand's marketing initiatives as they relate to external and internal PR, with a strong focus on supporting New Era’s Sport business. This highly visible position will support internal communications, company events, and culture to advance the overall engagement objectives of the organization.


    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working with the Director, PR to lead the development and execution of annual PR plans to drive the growth and relevance of New Era’s sport business and brand position.
  • Partner with brand marketing, retail and digital internal teams for the ideation, development, and execution of insightful & impactful integrated PR, marketing, and social campaigns that deliver a holistic approach to communicating about the brand and/or key products.
  • Build and foster relationships with a network of influencers and consumer media, across all areas of the Sports landscape in North America and in partnership with New Era PR leaders and external agencies.
  • Effectively manage communication, integration & deliverables of external agency partners and ensure well-managed, timely, impactful execution of PR plans.
  • Measure and analyze PR campaigns and coverage to ensure effectiveness and impact on target audience and communicate the outcome to a variety of internal and external audiences.
  • Serve as strategic advisor and counsel for internal/external communications and act as a confident, articulate and knowledgeable brand ambassador.
  • Help build an over-arching story-telling calendar for the brand, to help facilitate consumer, media & influencer understanding of the New Era Brand, products and concepts. Write Press Releases, product/story pitches, and manage editorial calendars. Manage strategic development and utilization of PR-specific assets (images, lookbooks), content, toolkits & other innovative forms of communication.
  • Set up showroom pulls with Editors & Stylist and Key Social Media Influencers; Oversee messengers and shipment of product
  • Advise on any editorial issues including, need for more support, samples for shoots, etc. Ensure we are in close communication each month with all relevant magazines, and identify opportunities to work more closely with magazines that magazines are non-responsive
  • Create strong relationships with assistants and editors at all monthly magazines and their online divisions
  • Constantly update activity log and confirmed credit charts, and track/document requests for runway looks


    Credits

  • Send out credit information for all editorial credits on a timely basis
  • Keep track of all published and forthcoming credits for weekly editorial credit report for Weekly Editorial Blast
  • Oversee an organized and up-to-date editorial archive
  • With intern, ensure all magazines are received in a timely manner each month, distributed to department heads, scanned into appropriate folders on the shared drive
  • Run monthly editorial reports and competitive analysis reports, pro-actively work on increasing year over year coverage
  • Create a monthly status Report and Activity Report on Key Competitors for Director of PR


    Sample Inventory and Archiving

  • Check-in collection samples against the PR order when they arrive. Work with Creative Services Team to ensure we have product stills for “Hero Pieces”. Work with Lifestyle Photographer and Brand Historian to ensure we also have lifestyle images on hand for editorial pitches,
  • Assist Office Manager with the archiving of all key sample pieces at the end of each season
  • Manage and track sample inventory


    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Possesses a deep and relevant rolodex of media contacts with an emphasis on key sport, influencer and consumer outlets.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing strategic, fully integrated and cohesive PR campaigns and marketing strategies that drive brand awareness, create demand for products and communicates the brand’s values and core messages across multiple media platforms.
  • High commitment to excellence with ability to contribute individual capabilities effectively in a team setting for the development of awe-inspiring ideas and concepts within the parameters of stated objectives.
  • Well spoken, confident, collaborative and ambitious, with an expertise and comfort level in dealing with high level executives, media, athletes and celebrities.
  • Self-directed and confident, with the ability to manage people, projects and budgets.


    Required Skills

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations or related field required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Public Relations experience (minimum 2 years in a corporate environment)
  • Experience in advertising/PR/event agency a plus
  • Demonstrated experience in a sports related PR role is strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with basic computer and PR applications including Cision, Google Docs, MS Office Apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Impeccable written and verbal communications skills (writing sample will be required)
  • Candidate must have a strong understanding of sports and sport culture, but critically must have a very strong appreciation for the cultural relevance, and cultural potential the New Era Brand has to create a unique, leading, position across fashion, apparel, sport, lifestyle, music, entertainment, etc.
  • Must be comfortable developing ideas in a team setting, sharing ideas with global resources, and leading the development of concepts & action plans in a group setting.
  • Must be interested in making PR as a leading, persistent, component of an integrated marketing offense.
