The Director of Global Events and Global Sponsorship is a leadership role responsible for setting event strategy, program design, packaging and roll-out to ensure that our flagship events like Summits, AWSome Days, as well as developing an integrated sponsorship strategy and plan that complements our event program and meets the needs of AWS’ partner ecosystem. This job will manage an events team as well as a sponsorship team and will be responsible for attracting and retaining top talent in both areas. This role will also be responsible for developing and driving the event technology strategy for AWS for both US and global events, including the vendors we partner with, the event platforms we use and the functionality we have as part of our overall event experience. The role will also be responsible for determining our build vs. buy strategy on event technology and will own socializing and education marketing and potentially service team leadership on what we need on the event tech side, including requirements, headcount and budget. Leadership principles required are: Customer obsession, think big, hire and develop the best, dive deep, are right a lot, deliver results..


This role will work with central marketing teams and field marketing teams to understand market maturity, partner landscape that currently exist in order to better understand and recommend programs or sponsorship opportunities that map to each region. You will be responsible to develop and execute planning and alignment strategies with the corporate and field marketing leaders to build and recommend the right portfolio of events. You will be responsible for building and maintaining a process where there is two-way communication for sharing and creating consistency across our global program portfolio. You will own the development of consistent global measurement for event reporting and analysis. This role will work in collaboration with the Head of Campaigns and Demand Generation to ensure we have a consistent voice in all of our event demand gen creative and invitations and develop new strategies for driving event registration.


Finally, you will be responsible for cultivating a team of event professionals that deliver high-impact and innovative programs that create a great customer experience.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Own the evolution and growth of the AWS event and sponsorship portfolios, determining which programs to add, change or eliminate. Look broadly across all marketing channels to evolve the way we think about events and sponsorship activities. Develop a strong POV on the role of sponsorships and events in corporate and partner marketing go to market plans
  • Own event technology decisions, including what our strategy should be in terms of build vs. buy for event technology functionality such as registration, session scheduling, badging, payment, follow-up
  • Own end-to-end management and development for event programs, including: playbook development, asset creation, demand generation best practices including email, social media and website advertising and provide consistent template for program reporting.
  • Develop global sponsorship packages that support our global program portfolio, creating innovative opportunities for our partner ecosystem.
  • Measure, track, and analyze global program results to provide data-driven reporting and recommendations for improving future events.
  • Invent, simplify, and optimize event planning and execution processes to drive improvements to the customer experience and lead generation.
  • Liaise with the global field marketing managers to ensure global program consistency across content, assets, keynote production and follow-up process.
  • Work with the Executive Speakers Bureau to assign keynote speakers to all programs
  • Ensure keynote production including any live streaming meets the global standards
  • May be required to execute events and or consult on associated lead generation campaigns to drive attendance for programs using email, social media, and website advertising.


    Required Skills

    Basic Qualifications

  • 15+ years of relevant work experience in marketing programs, event planning, sponsorship and marketing communications.  
  • Experience working with international marketing and sales organizations.
  • Demonstrated success in being able to manage multiple events/projects simultaneously.
  • Proven track record in creating innovative and targeted marketing programs that generate results.
  • Skilled negotiator with proven experience finding creative ways to do more with less and staying on budget.
  • Solid attention to detail, customer-service orientation and creativity in problem-solving.
