Your role at Sephora:


As the Director of Experiential Marketing, you will play an integral role in leading the development and continued evolution of the overall experiential marketing strategy and programs, including offsite events, consumer engagements and other marketing extensions that foster client love and reflect our company values. This position will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and will help to identify unique external opportunities to deliver against business objectives while carefully tracking budgets, determining success measures and analyzing results.


The Director of Experiential Marketing will also act as project director on our owned event platform – SEPHORiA - providing management, proactive consultation for internal and external business partners throughout program development and execution while driving service standards and seeking opportunities to enhance user experiences. Reporting to the VP of PR, Event & Experiential Marketing, this is a highly visible position and project.


In the role, you will:

  • Develop creative seed ideas and strategies for experiences based on company priorities, messaging and program objectives.
  • Redefine what experiential marketing is and can be in our industry.
  • Function as a thought leader in experiential marketing while remaining a student of consumers (trend, culture, etc.) and the company’s competitors to mine insights and monitor opportunities.
  • Oversee all experiential event planning estimates and negotiate contracts for project scope, schedule and resource requirements ensuring programs are properly budgeted, estimated and scheduled.
  • Lead integration amongst cross-functional partners (merchandising, creative, legal, finance, brand marketing, etc.) of existing and future programs to ensure strategy, awareness, consistent brand identification and the highest quality experience.
  • Significantly contribute to the creative design of each event environment to achieve business goals and purposes that align with company culture and marketing initiatives.
  • Oversee complex logistical elements of programs including attendee management, travel, transportation, technology platforms, F&B and AV.
  • Partner with production agency to manage vendors, non-endemic sponsors, 60+ brand partners and all third-party suppliers from procurement to completion while maintaining the project budget.
  • Travel onsite to programs to ensure continuity and exceptional business partner service.
  • Manage reconciliation of final bill and P&L as well as post-program deliverables. Coordinate post-con reporting including event analysis, reports of spending, attendance feedback, and other ROI metrics for company records.
  • Collaborate with VP PR and internal business units to craft and execute experiential event strategies.
  • Prepare and in select cases present all executive briefings with precision
  • Manage agency partners and direct report

    Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in event management, hospitality, marketing, or related fields
  • Minimum 10+ years of event management experience (preferably corporate events or agency)
  • Proven track record with a portfolio of experience leading conferences of 1000+ people; trade show environments a plus
  • Expertise in managing large, complex budgets from inception to final reconciliation with strong negotiation skills and understanding of building a P&L
  • Experience in event marketing, sourcing, planning, executing, and evaluating programs with precise detail in a deadline-driven environment
  • Beauty, fashion and/or retail experience a plus
  • Strategic thinker and solutions-orientated in all program related matters with the ability to see the bigger vision and align daily activities in accordance with the company vision
  • Exceptional client and vendor management skills
  • Excellent time management and verbal and written communication skills
  • You’re a team player with strong leadership skills, a positive attitude and willingness to roll up sleeves when necessary
  • Ability to travel –up to 50% of the time.
