Under the direction of the VP of Brand Marketing & Entertainment, the Director of Experiential Marketing is responsible for providing strategic leadership and direction within those respective areas. The incumbent should be a highly motivated and a creative self-starter with the ability to create and deliver first-class service to enterprise guests and internal colleagues.
Serves as an active strategic leader with comprehensive teamwork and oversight responsibilities to ensure successful development and implementation of an Entertainment, Events and Sponsorship division strategic plan, including enterprise sponsorships, entertainment, AV, and internal communications teams for San Manuel Casino (SMC) and Tribal Government divisions. Provides regular updates to leadership teams as applicable.
Creates first-class entertainment features to ensure casino and enterprise fulfillment and guest enjoyment. Ensures a positive San Manuel Casino (SMC) experience by providing outstanding guest service and developing programs to increase enterprise revenue streams. Utilizes the newest technologies to create entertainment features that become best in class.
Manages relationships with partners, vendors and suppliers including sponsorship partners, talent agencies, production vendors, sound and video suppliers, décor and prop manufacturers, etc. Works in conjunction with SMC partnerships to develop and contract with entertainment acts to satisfy both partner and organization goals. Entertainment acts include DJs, specialty bands, musicians, headliners, celebrity entertainers, etc. for the SMC venues. Resolves problems, questions, or concerns from entertainment vendors, performers and guests.
Controls internal events, community/nonprofit events and entertainment events from planning to execution, and represents the company at applicable off-property events. Manages day-of event staff including entertainment, production, nonprofit, sponsorship and vendor teams.
Responsible for maintenance and control of all applicable equipment under the purview of internal communication, entertainment, AV and sponsorships across the enterprise, including that held at the SMC, Park Ave. and other enterprise offices as assigned.
Responds to events or circumstances requiring high-level management attention and informs Chief Marketing Officer, Sr. VP of Casino/Property Marketing, SMC General Manager, and the VP of Brand Mktg & Entertainment of situations that require his/her attention. Works in conjunction with planning and analysis to create entertainment and other event pro-formas, recap and feedback reports, and post event analysis where applicable.
Manages the departmental budget and accurately tracks/adheres to budget goals for the SMC and TGO accounting units including sponsorships, internal communications, entertainment and AV across the San Manuel enterprise. Delivers projects within or below established budgets. Partners with enterprise accounting and finance teams to budget, predict and report on departmental revenues and expenses.
Maintains appropriate and qualified staff within the enterprise entertainment, AV, sponsorships and internal communication departments by interviewing, selecting, training, evaluating, promoting, coaching, disciplining and utilizing performance management as needed. Works with leadership team, direct reports and finance/planning & analysis teams to establish annual MBOs and conduct mid-year/annual reviews. Motivates and mentors staff, and helps to develop the organizational culture.
Understands and abides by SMC’s business practices, policies and philosophies. Adheres to Gaming Commission, compliance and loss control regulations to main updated physical and regulatory procedures for staff, vendors and performers. Partners with safety, risk management, HR, facilities, IT, AV and other teams to develop and maintain a safe working environment under the SMC and Tribal Government handbooks and other applicable regulations.
Stays abreast of current industry, technology and other trends and best practices within areas of responsibility. Communicates pertinent internal and external information to leadership teams, peers, direct reports and team members as appropriate.
Performs other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the enterprise and responsible departments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and hiring employees; coaching and training employees; planning, assigning, reviewing and directing work; evaluating and appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business Administration or a related field required.
Minimum of ten (10) years of in-depth experience with proven ability to create live show production under pressure; preference for high-volume casino, resort or entertainment environment preferred.
Minimum of seven (7) years in a supervisory role, directing and coaching others.
Proven experience in managing live nonprofit/community and partnership events preferred.
Proven ability to manage external vendors efficiently and effectively.
Previous experience with a wide variety of modern production equipment and structures, including fabrication, and digital/new technologies including video and signage.
Previous experience with lighting and audio-visual equipment used for headline entertainment preferred.
Must possess keen leadership abilities, as well as organizational and strategic agility.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks/projects to support multiple high-level executive positions and multiple marketingc/entertainment verticals under his/her purview.
Analytical in his or her approach to problem solving with an emphasis on managing within a team environment which is focused on results.
Must be comfortable preparing and conducting formal presentations to executives, stakeholders and team members.
Extensive experience in using complex analytical support to make decisions is essential.
Must be able to provide first-class service that consistently exceeds guest, executive and employee expectations.
High level of proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook is required.
Equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant and direct experience may be considered in lieu of minimum educational/experience requirements indicated above.
At the discretion of the San Manuel Tribal Gaming Commission you may be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license.
