The Brand Strategy and Branding team has embarked on a journey to redefine PayPal’s role in the world and how it manifests itself to current and prospect customers. The Sponsorship lead will play a key role in defining and activating our corporate sponsorship strategy to amplify of our brand purpose. In this role you will help deliver the foundation for an activation plan to launch marketing programs that increase consideration of PayPal with defined stakeholders and generate content that creates brand affinity that accelerates business results including brand consideration and intent. This work will have a measurable impact on our brand and business. Ultimately you are a doer, with high drive and strong sense of accountability. The ideal candidate will have experience executing sponsorship partnerships in support of strategic and business objectives.


This is a highly cross-functional role that requires close partnership across many teams including Sales, Corporate Communications, Marketing and Finance to define brand sponsorship foundations and execute across consumer, SMB and Large Enterprise stakeholders.


The candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-moving environment. They are a results-oriented, highly motivated, hands-on leader able to set a vision to drive change internally and be able to develop and implement complex projects.


They are an obsessed with culture and sports, curious, active researcher, innovative thinker, and well networked across the sponsorship landscape. They must be flexible and have a “can do”, positive attitude and be passionate about selling a vision to senior executives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define our sponsorship strategy as a platform to bring our brand purpose to life in support of all of our stakeholders including consumers, merchants and employees.
  • Manage our existing sponsorships including the San Jose Earthquakes, Phoenix Suns and LA Clipper in support of business outcomes across our consumer, small business and enterprise stakeholders.
  • Lead on site activation across the organization to create experiences that will achieve our sponsorship objectives to support small businesses, support enterprise sales opportunities, drive employees engagement and demonstrate our support of the communities where our sponsorships exist specifically San Jose.
  • Problem solver – will mobilize efforts related to executive feedback on how to optimize partnership based on their input from partners eg the office of the Mayor and club ownership.
  • Serve as day-to-day contact with the partner, leading weekly agendas, monthly reviews and executive level report outs on business outcomes.
  • Responsible for connecting across many different departments cross functionally to facilitate communication with internal counterparts including sales, in store marketing and product for tech integrations.
  • Execute flawlessly by aiding campaign development and executional support including in venue branding & POS, consumer journey mapping to drive product usage and digital/social amplification.
  • Partner with analytics, operations and finance on marketing mix models to ensure all campaigns are accurately measured and deliver on the business goals, establishing clear KPIs.
  • Results driven approach to define test and learn agenda to understand and increase impact of our sponsorships.
  • As needed, will support the activation of passion led vertical marketing programs within the team through defined program led approach and squad execution model.


    Required Skills

  • Sponsorship Strategy 5+ years’ experience developing and executing sponsorship campaigns with media agencies and partners.
  • Multi Tasker with a passion for sports/gaming/lifestyle marketing Global Operator with track record in working empathetically across multiple geographies
  • Agent of Change has led and motivated teams through change and has actively played a role in lifting the bar
  • Commercially minded understands the importance of demonstrating impact and linking brand metrics to commercials. Can manage and administer budgets effectively and optimize vendor roster for efficiency
  • Brilliant collaborator track record in working interdependently with individuals and teams for mutual success and understands the importance of elevating others and the team’s success above personal success
  • Customer Champion with demonstrated track record in designing marketing solutions with customer at center
  • Fluent in content marketing strategies to drive amplification of local efforts broadly to increase brand consideration.
  • Results oriented with proven analytical experience in sponsorship marketing attribution to articulate revenue impact and impact of reach on overall brand awareness and consideration.
  • Collaboration orientation in dynamic and matrixed organizations.
  • Solution oriented and can effectively resolves conflicts
  • Takes an outside in perspective and actively shares best practices and ideas within the team
