Animals
Dog Days of McDonough is a free community event dedicated to assisting non-profit rescues and shelters in the state of Georgia. Our non-profit school, ABC Montessori, hosts and plans this annual adoption festival. On festival day, dogs are brought for families to view, interact with, and hopefully adopt in an effort to promote adoption vs. breeding.

In our school, we see the benefits of animals with children every day, as we have a blossoming animal program that encourages our students to interact with chickens, goats, and horses. The children help care for the animals and learn about their lifecycles. It is proven that animal companionship and exposure has proven to have a positive effect on learning and children. The primary goal of Dog Days is to provide that same opportunity at a connection between a family and some wonderful dogs, and give exposure to the shelters and rescues. We have set out to minimize the number of euthanized dogs by planning to get as many dogs adopted as possible.

We host a great day of fun for an expected 2,000 attendees, with an activity center for children (with a petting zoo), groomers & vet advice stations, food vendors, and pet vendors. Attendees vote for their favorite Rescue’s booth, and the winner is crowned “Dog Gone Amazing” for the next year. Our pet contests also include a pet trick contest, a pet parade and pet costume contest – all with great prizes. We also have had wonderful success with our annual Art Contest, in which beautiful pieces of original art have been submitted by local students and artists. Our 6th Annual event will be held on May 9th, 2015 in Heritage Park in McDonough, Georgia. Featured acts will include the returning Flying Hounds Frisbee Show, Dock Diving Demos, and Georgia Dachshund Racing.
We depend entirely on our small, non-profit private school for financial support (ABC Montessori), and to continue to sustain growth, we look for support from corporate and private sponsorship. We have been fortunate in past years to have the support or organizations like yours and we are hopeful that this year will be no different. Any left-over proceeds of the event will be shared between ABC Montessori’s ongoing animal care program and the nonprofit winner of the Dog Gone Amazing Booth Contest (winner is selected by event attendees) in a 60/40 split of any leftover proceeds, respectively.

Our 2015 event is excited to include two new partnerships:
Pet Pages Atlanta will be working with Dog Days to print and distribute 5,000 Dog Days Special Editions that will be given to each attendee of the event. The booklet will be full of articles, information, coupons, deals, and resources for pet owners.
McDonough Junior Women's Club has come on board to help promote and execute the event this year!
