Chael Patrick Sonnen[5] (/ˈtʃeɪl ˈsʌnən/; born April 3, 1977)[6] is an American mixed martial artist currently competing in the light heavyweight division of Bellator MMA. Sonnen has been a professional MMA competitor since 1997. Prior to sigining with Bellator MMA, Sonnen competed for the UFC, where he became a top challenger in both the light heavyweight and middleweight divisions and challenged for both the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship and the UFC Middleweight Championship. Sonnen has also fought in the WEC and in Pancrase.
