Education
Our Meet the Music (MTM) Educational Concert Series will serve over 350 students this fall, introducing local elementary youth to basic music concepts through various world music genres and cultures. These students, all from Title I schools in San Pedro and Wilmington, will learn basic concepts over the course of three concerts and six pre/post concert lessons divided into three subject units:

· Rhythm & Tempo with concert by Beth Sussman, Classical Pianist
· Pitch & Melody with concert by Grace Kelly, Jazz Saxophonist and Vocalist
· Dynamics and Articulation with concert by Cambalache, Son Jarocho music from Veracruz

While being introduced to the unique musical sounds and cultural practices of these diverse genres and communities, students will make connections to their own port community here in the LA Harbor area.

In addition to the MTM series, we will also host an LA Opera performance at the Warner Grand Theatre for the fourth consecutive year. This February 2015, LA Opera will present their youth-tailored version of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville to over 1,300 3rd- 6th grade students.

Meet the Music gained new sponsors this year with generous gifts from the Harbor Community Benefit Foundation, The Max H. Gluck Foundation, and our very own Port of Los Angeles.
