NHL Briefs Sponsors On Lockout Status

NHL COO John Collins reportedly met with some of the league's key corporate sponsors Wednesday afternoon. The Canadian Free Press reports that representatives from Molson, Canadian Tire, Sport Chek, Kraft, Sirius XM and Scotiabank all took part in the meeting, which served to update partners on the status of ongoing labor negotiations.

A source told the The Canadian Free Press:

"They were very transparent with us," said the source, who requested anonymity. "I was looking around the room and the long-term, cumulative contract dollars around the table were probably at the $100-million mark. It's a significant chunk of change for the league."

With sponsorship activation plans on standby, the NHL lockout enters its third week. With the preseason cancelled, a postponement of the league's October 11th start date is expected soon.
