U.S. Water Polo Adds Official Defibrillator

Zoll Medical, a manufacturer of resuscitation devices and related software solutions, has partnered with USA Water Polo as the official automated external defibrillator of the organization. Under the terms of the partnership, Zoll will supply the AED Plus for the organization’s 500 clubs across the country. One of the first clubs to be equipped with a unit is the 2012 U.S. Olympic Water Polo Team, which will take an AED Plus to the London Olympics this month.

“As we hear about more and more athletes, despite being physically fit and health-conscious, collapsing from sudden cardiac arrest, we realize how essential having AEDs available to our members is,” said Jen Rottenberg, CMO of USA Water Polo. “Most of our sanctioned clubs don’t have a physical club, but travel to various pools at high schools, colleges, and recreational facilities, which often don’t have an AED on-site. All of our coaches are certified in CPR and first aid. Having an AED is the logical next step.”

“USA Water Polo is to be commended for recognizing the importance of access to an AED is to protect its members in the event of sudden cardiac arrest, and for recognizing the critical role the AED Plus can have in guiding a rescuer to deliver high-quality chest compressions. We have had a number of athletes saved with early defibrillation in some high profile settings using the AED Plus,” said Jonathan A. Rennert, President of Zoll.
