The National Railroad Passenger Corporation, doing business as Amtrak , is a government-owned corporation that was organized on May 1, 1971, to provide intercity passenger train service in the United States. "Amtrak" is a portmanteau of the words "America" and "track". It is headquartered at Union Station in Washington, D.C.

The club's home games are played at Staples Center, an arena shared with the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA, the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association , and the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League . The team has only had six winning seasons in its entire history, and only two since moving to Los Angeles in 1984. They have never won a division title or gotten past the second round of the NBA playoffs.
