Senior Manager, Philanthropy and Corporate Programs is a key member of the Philanthropy team, responsible for executing critical elements of our community engagement strategy. The position will report directly to the VP, Events, Publicity & Philanthropy, and play a critical role in our departmental mission to make our brand and communities stronger through focused, creative and visible philanthropy. Works with executives and internal partners, to develop integrated philanthropic programs aligned to company goals and Philanthropy’s focus on after school/out-of-school programs. Supports the work of other teams in Philanthropy:  Customer Engagement and Associate Engagement. This position is located in Dallas, Texas.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understands company business and philanthropic goals, and proactively align to them within areas of responsibility. 
  • Manages JCPenney’s Company Fund, including budget oversight and planning, board alignment, grants administration, and community partner management.
  • Manages and executes the company’s Disaster Relief activities, including budget oversight, program strategies and approvals, internal coordination, logistics, and marketing support.
  • Drives Executive Engagement with Philanthropy, focused on board placement (aligned with Philanthropy’s strategic focus on after school/out-of-school programs). Counsel executives on opportunities and coach for successful board participation.
  • Manages, executes, tracks and reports on the company’s donations of goods and in-kind services, working in partnership with key business teams. 
  • Manages and executes all vetting of potential non-profit partners/grantees.
  • Manages external vendor partners that fulfill grants, volunteer programs and associate giving.
  • Leads our philanthropic operations, including budget and grants administration, research and best practices, and program metrics.
  • Sets clear goals, metrics and budgets, and manage against them.
  • Proactively communicates goals, progress and challenges to direct supervisor and appropriate internal partners.
  • Works closely with other Philanthropy leaders to ensure program alignment based on shared goals.
  • Participates in project work and perform other duties as assigned


Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Philanthropy, Communications or related field required.
  • 8-10 years of progressively responsible experience in corporate philanthropy required.
  • Retail category experience a plus. 
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to think strategically and to problem solve complex business problems with ingenuity and creativity. 
  • Strong knowledge of philanthropic governance including risk and reporting. 
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build relationships and consensus with executive leadership and community partners.  Adept at working cross-functionally to implement programs and outreach.     
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
