Amateur Sports Leagues
The SoCal High School Cycling League was founded in the fall of 2008 to provide a well defined racing season for high school student-athletes and to promote the formation of cross country mountain bike teams at public and private high schools. The SoCal League is a spring interscholastic sport with a 5 race series going from late February through mid May and a California State Championship race in late May. The SoCal League helped launch the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) in 2009 and is now one of 15 active NICA leagues across the country as of 2015. The SoCal League territory is the 10 most southern counties of California from San Luis Obispo, Kern, and San Bernardino Counties south. The SoCal League introduced a middle school program for the spring 2014 series. We are a California non-profit corporation focused on developing not only well rounded student-athletes but the coaches that mentor them and the teams they are on. All of our programs are self-supporting, our coaches are volunteers, and our programs and races rely heavily on volunteers. With the development of our program many student-athletes can now obtain Varsity letters in cross-country mountain biking and we believe our teams, coaches, events, and races compare favorably to established state-supported sports such as baseball, basketball, and football. During the spring 2015 season we had over 800 student-athletes on 65 teams. Our race weekends are truly "weekends." With most venues offering on site camping our races are truly family events with an incredible camaraderie! Join us as we continue to build a new interscholastic sport that can be enjoyed for a life time!
