Ultra running is one of the toughest and most rewarding ways to enjoy the sport of running. An 'Ultra' is technically any length past the traditional Marathon distance of 26.2 miles. The Southern Pines Ultra Running Club aims to help current and aspiring ultra runners maintain their training and achieve their goals by providing competitive events, support and running partners. A main component of the Southern Pines Ultra Running Club is its SPUR Cup series, an ultra marathon race series that is quickly gaining popularity for its free and low cost races. Some races are be free, some are paid. Club members get a discounted entry into all of our paid events and guaranteed entry into the free events. The SPUR Cup series is open to anyone who wants to compete. The series has attracted runners from all over the country and even a few international runners. 2014 is turning out to be a great first year for the SPUR Cup Series with the races selling out as they open. Looking ahead to 2015 and years to follow, the series is projected to get bigger and better.
