TRIBES ON THE EDGE, a multi-faceted Céline Cousteau project, is an innovative opportunity to showcase a brand or company as an industry leader in environmental sustainability and reinforce its commitment to human rights. Based in the Brazilian Amazon and scheduled to launch around the time of Rio 2016, it is also a way for companies to leverage the excitement around Rio 2016 and provide a message of social justice.

The inspiration for TRIBES ON THE EDGE was a voyage on which Céline Cousteau, filmmaker, humanitarian, and environmental advocate, experienced the wonders of the Amazon with her grandfather, Jacques Cousteau, in the early 1980s. She returned 25 years later and discovered the Javari tribes, whose people are at risk, due to the loss of their ancestral land, a spiraling health crisis, oil exploitation, and illegal fishing, hunting, and logging on their land.

The Javari is a panorama of incredible biodiversity, considered by IUCN to be irreplaceable. The health of the Amazon has a significant impact on the health of the rest of the planet. The loss of its guardians would affect us all.

Céline has been asked by the Javari tribes to tell their story to the world, which she will do with a television program and video shorts. She is also coordinating with local NGO’s and scientists to attain nomination as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve site and to address the health situation of the Javari. A multimedia engagement campaign, including an interactive website and educational materials, will expand TRIBES ON THE EDGE's footprint and impact. There are four unique aspects of TRIBES ON THE EDGE:
· Urgency – the long-term survival of these tribes is at risk
· Direct impact on climate change – these tribes are guardians of a region of the world responsible for 25% of the world’s oxygen
· The Rio Olympics in August 2016 provides a unique opportunity to leverage the worldwide attention on the tribes’ home country
· Continuation of the Cousteau family’s long-standing commitment to exploration and preserving our environment
