When H. Allen Tate Jr. was growing up in South Carolina, his father, a grocer, gave him career advice. "Go to Charlotte," the elder Tate told his son. "Go into the real estate business." His father instilled a love of sales in him, as well as passion for customer service. After graduation from the University of North Carolina, Tate took his father's advice.
