The Castrol brand is part of the BP's Group of Companies, but has retained its separate identity. n February 1899, Charles Cheers Wakefield resigned from the Vacuum Oil Company over a disagreement with the management regarding Vacuum Oil's foray into the railway lubricants sector, and set himself up as competition. The firm he left behind would go on to become Mobil Oil.

Castrol sponsors Renault Sport F1 BP and Renault Sport Racing have today announced a new partnership which will see the global oil company join the recently reformed Renault Sport Formula One Team in support of their ambition to fight for the World Championship in the next five years. BP and Castrol, the oil company’s global lubricant brand, will provide fuels and lubricants for the upcoming Formula 1 season, which gets underway in Melbourne, Australia, in March.

Castrol signs deal with Land Rover Ben Ainslie Racing Castrol’s liquid engineering will now flow through Land Rover BAR’s challenge for the 35th America’s Cup under the terms of an agreement announced today. As a Technical Supplier, and as a Land Rover BAR Academy Partner, Castrol will bring its pioneering lubricants technology to improve the performance of the boat’s hydraulics and overall efficiency of the boat in its America’s Cup bid.
