Coca-Cola is a carbonated soft drink sold in stores, restaurants, and vending machines in more than 200 countries. It is produced by The Coca-Cola Company of Atlanta, Georgia, and is often referred to simply as Coke . Originally intended as a patent medicine when it was invented in the late 19th century by John Pemberton, Coca-Cola was bought out by businessman Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing tactics led Coke to its dominance of the world soft-drink market throughout the 20th century.

Major League Soccer is a professional soccer league based in the United States and sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation . The league is composed of 19 teams — 16 in the U.S. and 3 in Canada. MLS represents the top tier of both the American and Canadian soccer pyramids.

MLS had been with PepsiCo Inc. since its inception in 1996. The league has doubled in size since then, and attendance has risen to an record high. The Pepsi contract expired in December and Coke won the bid through Soccer United Marketing, MLS’s commercial arm, which also represents U.S. Soccer and the Mexican national team’s American games.
