This tournament is a benchmark for tennis lovers because the best players on the circuit play on these clay courts, mingling with the public without hiding from their fans and also because it is a stage for events within the event that involve the spectators. The first Sunday of the tournament is dedicated to children with the Journée des Enfants, which sees enthusiastic huge participation by young tennis school pupils, battling it out with their peers and perhaps even hitting a ball or two with their idols.
